Description: Ever since she was a little girl, Lillie Leonardi could hear the whispers of angels. No one else could hear or see them, but deep down she knew they were real, and that they would help guide and protect her. She spent years pushing these visions aside, but on September 11, 2001, her life, like so many others, was forever changed. After witnessing a legion of angels at the Flight 93 crash site, she experienced an incredible transformation that opened her up to the magic, mystery, and miracles of life. And she gained the courage to share her story with others . . . In this decades-spanning memoir, Lillie reveals how she first uncovered her intuitive gifts. She explains how her ancestry, her strict Catholic upbringing, and other significant events impacted her spiritual evolution and faith in God. From understanding love and marriage, becoming a mother, and finding her true purpose and vocation in law enforcement to confronting separation, death, and loss, Lillie describes times in her life when she called on the angels for blessings, and others when she learned how to rely on herself. Throughout her journey of self-discovery, her realizations about forgiveness, self-acceptance, and healing unfold and offer divine inspiration for readers.

Description: In 2063 the United States has become a third-world country. War rages in Europe. Religious freedom has been relinquished. Hollywood has been banned. The bread basket of the country has gone dry, and the cities have been abandoned to the destitute, turning them into lawless shells of their former selves. Even so, the worst is yet to come. When a mysterious white light engulfs the country, America is thrust into a new dark age, leaving ten disparate and valiant individuals to rebuild and claim their place in a new world—a world unlike anything they have ever known. Facing challenges of staying alive, the few survivors are drawn to the town of Bastion nestled deep in a Wyoming mountain range, a community seemingly untouched by the horrible events of the world. Here they must work together or else face extinction from a new and frightening enemy. As the future of civilization hangs in the balance, a few will rise from the after winds of disaster and do what is necessary, changing the meaning and expectations inherent in the word humanity.

Description: Sebastian Uhlig presents the first experimental investigation of self-organized surface structures (LIPSS) generated by ablation from different (semiconductor and metallic) targets with an ultrafast white-light continuum (WLC) spreading in wavelength from 400-750 nm. The main goal is to study the possibility of LIPSS formation upon irradiation with an incoherent and polychromatic light source (e.g. the WLC) in order to discriminate between the two debated formation scenarios. The generation of a suitable WLC in terms of sufficient white-light pulse energy, broad spectral bandwidth, and low spatial coherence for the LIPSS generation, as well as the characterization of this WLC are additional important objectives of this work.

Description: White Light, Yellow Light, Districts, Dynamics: The Socioeconomic Divide By: L. Tommy Long In our nation's neighborhoods, there is a disturbing indicator of inequality that few have noticed: light. Have you ever stopped to wonder why there is such a stark contrast between the appearances of low income communities and more affluent ones at night? The disparity has many causes, but the two most notable are the differences in operational cost and illumination levels, and these point to deeper systemic issues. This contrast thus separates America's white light and yellow light districts, the haves and the have nots. In this book, author L. Tommy Long explores the impact politics has on economic opportunities and lived experiences. As the economic inequality gap continues to widen in America, Long offers possible solutions, and he challenges each reader to look inward for ways to improve his/her life.

Description: This publication is a result of three meetings, each 5 days long, held at the Goddard Space Flight Center on January 24-28, 1983, June 8-14, 1983, and February 13-17, 1984. The meetings were held in the interim between the full operations of the Solar Maximum Mission (SMM) in 1980, and the renewed operations after its repair in orbit in April 1984. Their general objectives were as follows: o Synthesize flare studies after three years of SMM data analysis. Many analyses of individual flares and individual phenomena, often jointly across many data sources had been published, but a need existed for a broader synthesis and updating of our understanding of solar flares since the Skylab Flare Workshops held several years earlier. o Encourage a broader participation in the SMM data anlysis and combine this more fully with theory and other data sources--data obtained with other spacecraft such as the HINOTORI, P78-1, and ISEE-3 spacecrafts, and with the Very Large Array (VLA) and many other ground-based instruments. Many coordinated data sets, unprecedented in their breadth of coverage and multiplicity of sources, had been obtained within the structure of the Solar Maximum Year (SMY). o Stimulate joint studies, and publication in the general scientific literature. The intended primary benefit was for informal collaborations to be started or broadened at the Workshops with subsequent publications. o Provide a special publication resulting from this Workshop. o Provide a starting point of understanding for planning renewed full observations with the repaired SMM.

Description: Optics clearly explains the principles of optics using excellent pedagogy to support student learning. Beginning with introductory ideas and equations, K.K. Sharma takes the reader through the world of optics by detailing problems encountered, advanced subjects, and actual applications. Elegantly written, this book rigorously examines optics with over 300 illustrations and several problems in each chapter. The book begins with light propagation in anisotropic media considered much later in most books. Nearly one third of the book deals with applications of optics. This simple idea of merging the sometimes overwhelming and dry subject of optics with real world applications will create better future engineers. It will make ‘optics’ jump off the page for readers and they will see it take shape in the world around them. In presenting optics practically, as well as theoretically, readers will come away not only with a complete knowledge base but a context in which to place it. This book is recommended for optical engineers, libraries, senior undergraduate students, graduate students, and professors. Strong emphasis on applications to demonstrate the relevance of the theory Includes chapter on problem solving of ray deviations, focusing errors, and distortion Problems are included at the end of each chapter for thorough understanding of this dense subject matter

Description: Remarkable developments in the spectroscopy field regarding ultrashort pulse generation have led to the possibility of producing light pulses ranging from 50 to5 fs and frequency tunable from the near infrared to the ultraviolet range. Such pulses enable us to follow the coupling of vibrational motion to the electronic transitions in molecules and solids in real time. Detailing these advanced developments, as well as the fundamental methods and tools of vibrational spectroscopy, Coherent Vibrational Dynamics providesresearchers and students with a uniquely comprehensive resource. With the contributions of pioneering scientists, this seminal volume – · Outlines the principles and tools used on time-domain vibrational spectroscopy and provides a general introduction to the subject of coherent phonons · Describes the modern methods for tunable ultrashort pulse generation from infrared to visible-UV · Reviews coherent vibrational dynamics in small molecules in liquids (hydrogen bonds), and in carbon based conjugated materials (polyenes, carotenoids, and semiconducting polymers) · Explores phonon dynamics in semiconductors (bulk and heterostructures) and in quasi-one-dimensional systems Supplemented with a great number of references, and covering fundamental as well advanced topics, this text provides a valuable reference for both graduate students and senior researchers investigating materials in physics, chemistry, and biology. It is also an excellent starting point for those who want to pursue research in the field of ultrafast optics and spectroscopy.

Description: An adventurous story of a frontier boy raised by Indians, The Light in the Forest is a beloved American classic. When John Cameron Butler was a child, he was captured in a raid on the Pennsylvania frontier and adopted by the great warrrior Cuyloga. Renamed True Son, he came to think of himself as fully Indian. But eleven years later his tribe, the Lenni Lenape, has signed a treaty with the white men and agreed to return their captives, including fifteen-year-old True Son. Now he must go back to the family he has forgotten, whose language is no longer his, and whose ways of dress and behavior are as strange to him as the ways of the forest are to them.

Description: This book is the first part of the originally planned publication by Z. Svestka and L. D. de Feiter 'Solar High Energy Photon and Particle Emission'. The second part, with the original title, was to be published by de Feiter in about one year from now. However, to the deep sorrow of all of us, Dr de Feiter died suddenly and unexpectedly when the present book was in print. Thus, unfortunately, de Feiter's second part may not appear. Due to the fact that the originally planned publication was divided into two parts, the present book is mainly descriptive and concerned with the flare morphology. It was expected that theoretical interpretations would be extensively developed in the second part, prepared by de Feiter. In particular, this refers to the theoretical back grounds of radio emissions, particle acceleration and particle propagation in space. Only in Chapter II, concerning the 'low-temperature' flare, do we go deeper into the theoretical interpretations, anticipating that de Feiter would have been concerned mainly with the 'high-energy' physics. Still, the book includes discussions on all important aspects of flares and thus can present the reader with a complete picture of the complex flare phenomenon. It is clear that many observed data on flares can be interpreted in different ways.
